Don't see your plan? Call (347) 286-1530 and we'll check. We also offer self-pay rates and can provide a superbill for out-of-network reimbursement.
Is a dietitian covered by insurance in New York?
Yes. Under the Affordable Care Act, most insurance plans cover nutrition counseling with a Registered Dietitian as a preventive service, often with no copay and no deductible. In New York, coverage typically applies to weight management, diabetes and prediabetes, high cholesterol and heart disease, digestive conditions such as IBS and celiac disease, and pediatric nutrition. Some plans cover a set number of visits per year; many cover unlimited preventive visits. We'll tell you exactly what yours includes.
How we verify your benefits
- Book online or call (347) 286-1530.
- Send us a photo of your insurance card.
- Before your first appointment, we check your plan for nutrition counseling (CPT codes 97802 and 97803) and tell you your cost — usually $0.
- Meet your dietitian by video from home, work, or anywhere in New York.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a referral to see a dietitian? Most PPO and POS plans don't require one. Some HMO plans do. We'll tell you when we verify your benefits.
Is a virtual nutrition visit covered the same as in-person? Yes — the plans we accept cover telehealth nutrition counseling in New York at the same rate as in-person visits.
How many visits does insurance cover? It depends on your plan. Many cover unlimited preventive nutrition visits; others cap at a specific number per year. We check this for you before your first session.
What if my plan isn't listed? Call us. We can check whether we're in-network, or provide a superbill so you can seek out-of-network reimbursement.
What's the difference between a nutritionist and a registered dietitian? In New York, "nutritionist" isn't a protected title. A Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN) has a graduate degree, supervised clinical training, and a national board exam — and is what insurance companies require for covered nutrition counseling. All of our providers are Registered Dietitians.
