Most UnitedHealthcare plans cover nutrition counseling as a preventive benefit, so most of our UHC patients pay $0 per visit. All appointments are virtual.

Does UnitedHealthcare cover a nutritionist?

Yes. UnitedHealthcare covers preventive nutrition counseling and medical nutrition therapy with a Registered Dietitian. Coverage details vary by plan; we check yours before your first appointment.

How to use your UHC benefits with us

  1. Book online or call (347) 286-1530.
  2. Send us a photo of your UHC insurance card.
  3. Before your first appointment, we verify your coverage for nutrition counseling (CPT codes 97802 and 97803) and tell you your cost — usually $0.
  4. Meet your Dietitian by video from home, work, or anywhere in New York.

What to expect

A 60-minute virtual initial consultation with a Registered Dietitian, a personalized plan, access to the Healthie food-journal app, and secure messaging between visits. Our Dietitians specialize in weight management, GI issues (IBS, low-FODMAP, celiac, IBD), Diabetes and Prediabetes, Heart Health, pediatric nutrition and prenatal nutrition.

UHC questions

Does UnitedHealthcare require a referral for a dietitian? Not for most UHC PPO and POS plans. Some HMO plans do — we'll confirm when we verify your benefits.

Does UHC cover virtual dietitian visits? Yes. Telehealth nutrition counseling is covered in New York the same as in-person visits, and all of our appointments are virtual.

Do you take Oxford and EmblemHealth plans through UnitedHealthcare? Yes. We are in-network with Oxford Health Plans and EmblemHealth as well — see our Oxford and EmblemHealth pages.
