Does EmblemHealth cover a nutritionist?

Yes. EmblemHealth covers preventive nutrition counseling and medical nutrition therapy with a Registered Dietitian. Coverage details vary by plan; we check yours before your first appointment.

NYC employees and retirees

Many New York City employees, teachers, and municipal retirees have EmblemHealth coverage. If your plan card says EmblemHealth, GHI, or HIP, send us a photo and we'll verify your nutrition benefits.

How to use your EmblemHealth benefits with us

  2. Send us a photo of your EmblemHealth insurance card.
  3. Before your first appointment, we verify your coverage for nutrition counseling (CPT codes 97802 and 97803) and tell you your cost — usually $0.
  4. Meet your Dietitian by video from home, work, or anywhere in New York.

What to expect

A 60-minute virtual initial consultation with a Registered Dietitian, a personalized plan, access to the Healthie food-journal app, and secure messaging between visits. Our Dietitians specialize in weight management, GI issues (IBS, low-FODMAP, celiac, IBD), Diabetes and Prediabetes, Heart Health, pediatric nutrition and prenatal nutrition.

EmblemHealth questions

Does EmblemHealth require a referral for a dietitian? Some EmblemHealth HMO plans require a referral from your primary care physician; PPO and POS plans usually don't. We'll tell you if yours does when we verify your benefits.

Does EmblemHealth cover virtual dietitian visits? Yes. Telehealth nutrition counseling is covered in New York the same as in-person visits, and all of our appointments are virtual.

I'm a NYC employee with EmblemHealth. Is nutrition counseling covered? In most cases, yes, as a preventive benefit. Send us a photo of your card and we'll confirm your coverage and cost before your first visit.
